1. What Keylight is — and isn't

Keylight is a marketplace: a place for crew to publish rate information and availability, and for production companies to find and book them. It is not a staffing agency, not an employer of record for either side, and not a party to the working relationship between a crew member and a production.

Crew set their own rates, decide which bookings to accept, supply their own equipment, and are never required to be exclusive to Keylight or to any one production. That's a deliberate design choice, not an accident — it's what keeps every booking made here a direct, independent-contractor relationship between the crew member and the production company, exactly as it would be if they'd found each other any other way.

2. Accounts

You must be 18 or older and provide accurate information. Crew accounts are verified — by invitation from an existing verified member, or by application review — before they can publish or book. Producer accounts are tied to a specific production company. One person may hold both a crew and a producer account if that reflects their actual work.

You're responsible for your account and anything done through it. Tell us right away if you think it's been compromised.

3. Rates and the rate book

Every published median comes from crew who submitted a rate for that position — never a survey of what productions wish they paid, never scraped from anywhere else. Nothing publishes below fifteen submitted ranges for a position, and only the 25th–75th percentile band and median ever show, rounded to the nearest $25. Rate information is self-reported. We don't verify that any individual number is accurate, and we aren't responsible for a booking decision made on the strength of a published median.

4. Bookings and deal memos

When a crew member accepts a booking request, the terms of that offer — dates, rate, kit fee, payment terms, scope — freeze into a deal memo. That memo is the real, written agreement between the crew member and the production company. It does not change afterward even if the underlying project details do, and we retain it for six years, matching record-keeping requirements under freelance payment protection law in the states that have one.

Either side can decline a booking request freely, for any reason, with no penalty and no effect on future access to the platform.

5. Payment

What Keylight processes. A one-time fee a producer pays to unlock sending booking requests on a project, priced by how many positions they're filling. This is a platform access fee, processed through Stripe. It is the only payment that runs through Keylight.

What Keylight does not process. The day rate, kit fee, or any other amount owed to a crew member for a booking. That payment happens directly between the production company and the crew member, through whatever payroll or invoicing arrangement their deal memo specifies. Keylight lets a crew member self-report when it lands, and that record contributes to a production company's public payment record — but we never hold, route, or guarantee that money.

6. Reviews

Reviews exist only where there was a real booking with a frozen deal memo. Both sides answer the same structured questions after the shoot, and neither sees the other's answers until both have submitted, or fourteen days pass. A private note is never published or shared with the other party under any circumstance. Aggregates are suppressed below three reviews for the same reason medians are suppressed below fifteen ranges — a small sample identifies people.

Reviews must reflect the reviewer's genuine experience. We may remove a review that violates that, or that targets someone rather than describing a working experience.

7. Acceptable use

Don't misrepresent who you are or what you do, scrape or bulk-export data, harass another user, or use the platform to retaliate against someone for a review, a decline, or exercising a right described in these terms or the privacy policy. We may suspend or terminate an account for violating this.

8. Content you provide

You keep ownership of anything you post — your bio, photos, reel, reviews. By posting it, you give Keylight the license needed to display it as part of the product (your public profile, the rate book, a company record). You're responsible for having the right to post it.

9. Disclaimers

Keylight is provided as-is. We don't guarantee that a rate, a review, or a payment record is accurate, that a booking will go well, or that any particular production or crew member will meet your expectations. We are not a party to, and carry no liability for, the working relationship or payment dispute between a crew member and a production company.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Keylight's liability for anything arising from your use of the platform is limited to the amount you've paid us in the twelve months before the claim — which, for the great majority of crew accounts, is zero.

11. Termination

You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account for violating these terms. A deal memo or payment record already created isn't erased by account closure, for the same record-keeping reason described above.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.

13. Changes

We'll update the date at the top when these change, and flag it plainly rather than let it pass quietly if the change is material.
